“This is so frustrating”, Lily cried out in exasperation, “I cannot remember the code”. Surely, I thought, you know you haven’t been to the gym for quite some time if you cannot manage to remember the password on your Dudley lock. After a few more minutes of unsuccessful attempts passed us by, we decided to share a locker. And we set off to GoodLife Fitness, to engage in rigorous physical activity—to look better, to feel better. Both benefits are equally important. One sentiment we both strongly shared: “This was long overdue!”
When we entered the parking lot, my first observation was the numerous amount of cars neatly parked in front of the gym. Waiting for equipment would be required today, I thought. Worse, we would be hard pressed finding two treadmills side-by-side to exercise on, as we typically enjoy doing together. But, notwithstanding these two inconveniences, it was refreshing working out with a partner again: having turns doing sets on each equipment, supporting each other’s efforts, and seeing each other sweat.
As we were walking out of GoodLife and the doors closed behind us, a smile crossed my face—for a brief second or so—as I thought about us participating in yet another activity together. It's delightful knowing that both of us can not only engage in activities together, but each of us can also find immense enjoyment in doing them.
